Position Overview

As the Second Shift Supervisor, you will oversee daily fabrication shop operations during the evening shift, ensuring production goals, quality standards, and safety expectations are met. You'll lead a team of machine operators, fabricators, and shop personnel while providing guidance, training, and support to employees at varying skill levels, including entry-level operators.

This role serves as a key link between production management and shop employees, helping drive efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the fabrication process.

What You'll Do

Lead Daily Production Operations

  • Supervise and coordinate second-shift fabrication shop activities
  • Assign workloads and monitor production schedules to meet deadlines
  • Ensure equipment, materials, and staffing are properly aligned with production needs
  • Communicate priorities and expectations clearly to team members

Develop and Support Team Members

  • Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to machine operators and fabrication personnel
  • Assist with onboarding and skill development for entry-level employees
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct performance feedback and address operational concerns as needed

Ensure Quality and Efficiency

  • Monitor fabrication processes to maintain quality standards
  • Review work orders, shop drawings, and production requirements
  • Identify and resolve production issues quickly and effectively
  • Track productivity and recommend process improvements

Champion Safety

  • Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards
  • Conduct routine safety observations and promote safe work practices
  • Ensure proper use of equipment, tools, and personal protective equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment

Coordinate Across Departments

  • Communicate production updates, challenges, and accomplishments to management
  • Work closely with first-shift leadership and project teams to ensure smooth transitions between shifts
  • Assist with inventory, materials management, and equipment utilization

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of supervisory, team lead, or production leadership experience in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or a related environment
  • Strong understanding of fabrication shop operations and production workflows
  • Proven ability to lead teams, motivate employees, and manage performance
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to workplace safety, quality, and operational excellence
  • Ability to read production documents, work orders, and basic fabrication drawings
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication or mechanical construction
  • Knowledge of fabrication equipment, including press brakes, plasma tables, shears, and related machinery
  • Experience training and developing entry-level employees
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus
